Word World - A MomGadget Review

This is a great new program that we got to preview before the release in September 3, 2007 for PBS Kids and let me tell ya this will be one kid show we tune in to EVERYDAY.
Isabella, age 3, was so excited when I popped this little video in and she was so into the show that once each one ended I had to click the next, but when there were no more shows, I figured she’d just go back to playing with her toys, instead she asked if she could watch them again.
Even now, she continues to watch Word World every single day, not just once a week.

Each story is engaging and has a problem that is solved by building a word. The one she likes best is “The Birds,†in which the “WordFriends†find an egg and assign Sheep to the task of protecting this rambunctious egg. I, myself, thought “Runaway O†was a cute one. The friends come across a package by Cat’s gate and open it up but the letters bounce out and they must get them back before Cat wakes up.
When I asked Isabella why she liked the show she replied, “Cause they build stuff, momma, and it’s fun.â€

Word World is exactly what it sounds like, it is a world made up of words, “Where words come alive.†Words are everywhere ya look, from the homes, trains, words, and of course the characters (sheep, dog, frog, duck, ant, pig, etc). For each character they are made up by their own word of what they are.
Isabella’s favorite character is sheep, the word sheep is actually in the shape of the animal.

Her favorite part seems to be the “Build-a-Word†part of the show, which is normally near the end of the show. It even has a catchy tune that you’ll see her dancing too as she spells the words with the characters. I must say I love this show, it not only keeps her interested but she is learning to read and spell at the same time.

Thoughts Aside:
With the development of tourism culture, demand for the digital cameras has increased. A variety of cameras is available on online shopping websites; even you can search for digital camera sale in order to get good camera in reasonable price. It is very easy to connect digital cameras with compact photo printer, while on the other hand, trend of using bluetooth printer is developing day by day. For live video conferencing, digital cameras can also be connected directly to video projector.

Sounds great. I’ll be on the look out for it. My son, 3, and daughter, almost 2, loves The Letter Factory. This looks like something they’ll really enjoy.

As a reading specialist who works with primary students, I was thrilled to see this delightful program, however, parents beware. All words are always shown in capital letters and students mostly read lower case letters. It would be great if the producers would adjust these. Children must learn the correct ways to read and write from the beginning, for instance, don’t have your child write their name in all capital letters. Teach them the write way using upper and lower- your kindergarten teacher will thank you. Also, practice sounding out the words on the show instead of always spelling them as the characters do. This is more developmental.
