The 6 degrees of blogging

by Gayla McCord on January 24th, 2007

Lorelle VanFossen at Blog Herald has written an interesting piece asking the question “who blogs?”

I’d never given it much thought really, but this is actually kind of deep and very personal for me.  You see, I consider myself a mother and wife first - but a blogger second.
Have you ever thought about all the people you’ve met blogging?  The places you’ve been able to visit without having actually left home?  The things you’ve learned about different regions, cultures or topics that you’d have never given a second thought otherwise?

Blogging has taken me around the world - I’ve met true, close, personal friends - I know I would have never met otherwise and that I may never actually get the pleasure of meeting in person, but that doesn’t discount the closeness and friendship I feel toward them.

I’d never stopped to realize that when it comes to reading blogs, discriminations and initial judgments are set aside and the carefully chosen words that spew from the writers own passions and interests are where I develop my impression - for all I know they could be writing in their pajamas, a fancy blue suit or even in the buff.  It doesn’t matter.

If beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder and blogging is the window to the world, what does your world look like?

Where has blogging taken you?  What has it taught you?  Why do you blog?  How many people do you know that blog?
