Toshiba & Graduation Go Together Like a Good Old PB&J

justin toshiba

As you may remember, a couple of weeks ago, MomGadget.com awarded a Toshiba Laptop to a local girl who was attending and working her way through nursing school – In wrapping up the Toshiba Grads Campaign, we have had the pleasure of hand-selecting another recipient of our second Toshiba Laptop.

This time we went to another part of the county, another high school and picked a male grad.

This is the letter that was given to Justin along with his new Toshiba.

Dear Justin,

On behalf of Toshiba and MomGadget.com, I have been given the most wonderful opportunity of being able to recognize you, your hard work, efforts and contributions to our local community with a new Toshiba laptop.

When I was approached by Toshiba to help coordinate a campaign for the upcoming graduation season, I wanted to dig a bit deeper than the typical campaigns, to somehow make a difference in the life of a very deserving individual.

Through careful consideration, observation and a little sleuthing-style investigative work, the choice became obvious.

You work so hard to improve your life and the lives of others. I’ve heard it said that all things are made better with music and you give so much of yourself through the music you play and the compilations you carefully plan and gift to others. Most of all, the part of you that is set to travel to another country to reach out to those so much less fortunate is very admirable. You are going to change lives in a way that many of us can only imagine.

You are a wonderful person. Your family speaks so highly of you. You are always so pleasant, despite the conflicts you’ve sometimes encountered.

Thanks for being such an inspiration and good luck with your education – I’m sure you’ll be a spectacular addition to the American workforce one of these days.

With sincere appreciation,

Gayla

As I had stated in our earlier presentation – the wonderful part of this particular campaign is the fact that it gives back to our young people. So many kids don’t realize just how many people observe them and their actions – and no matter whether you think people are watching or not, they are and those positive efforts and contributions will always be rewarded, eventually.

A very special thanks to Toshiba for allowing MomGadget.com to participate in such a life changing and inspirational campaign. This has truly been an amazing Mom’s, Dad’s and Grad’s season.

And lastly – to all the 2010 graduates – good luck in achieving your dreams – Live to Inspire!

Organizher by Mead Review and Giveaway

capture1

It’s getting harder and harder to get organized and once I think I’ve gotten there it’s almost impossible to stay there.  If you don’t believe me take a look at my desk.  Paper everywhere, some in stacks and some, well, not in stacks but as I said ALL OVER.  You can imagine my delight when I was offered the chance to review the Organizher by Mead.

Organizher is not one product but many all with one goal in mind. To keep your life organized and allow you the time you’d normally spend sorting through stacks and stacks of papers, shuffling them from one pile into another new pile just to find the one you wrote that appointment or phone number on.

Meade has 15 items in the Organizher line that include

Customizable Solutions
Whether it’s a Shopping Companion to manage your “to-buys”, a Family Organizer for all your planning and scheduling needs, or an Expense Tracker, these Organizher products feature Tech Lock® technology – rings that open and close easily so you can add, subtract and customize with your own documents or free downloadable templates available at Mead.com

Calendars/Time Management
We know how hard it is to keep track of a family’s busy life, as well as what’s for dinner. With Organizher’s time management products like the Month-to-Month Family Wall Calendar and On-the-Go Family Planner, you can plan ahead while keeping today’s priorities in close view.

Meal Planning
Keep track of your shopping list and plan meals for the week ahead with Organizher’s convenient Write-n-Wipe Meal Cente rand Meal Planning Magnetic Notepad. Both products easily hang on a fridge for convenient access when and where you need it most.

On-the-Go Solutions
The portable sizes of Organizher’s On-the-Go Memo Book and Stay-in-Touch Address Book are perfect for a purse, briefcase or diaper bag, allowing you to take your planning anywhere!

I got to pick a few that I thought would fit me to use and review so I chose.

Magnetic Calendar Center  – An undated weekly paper calendar keeps track of your family’s busy life, while a dry erase area lets you track changing priorities and to do’s as the week progresses. SRP: $15.99

magnetic-calendar-center2

This is great for the family with a lot going on.  There are sections for yourself and up to 3 family members plus a place to note dinner ideas.  In addition at the bottom is a dry erase area for quick notes or if you’re like me, items I need to add to the shopping list.

On the Go Family Planner – Keep track of your family’s busy life, as well as what’s for dinner with All Me,All Them, and Chow sections in this tabbed planner. Also includes a repositionable bookmark, sections to log important information and a “Dates to Remember” section. SRP: $9.99

family-organizer

This is a mini version of the Magnetic Calendar Center.  You can keep this on your desk, in the car or just about anyplace you want.  Like the Magnetic Calendar Center it has a section all for you, up to 3 members of your family and a section for notes.  I have to admit, I don’t use this the way it’s intended.  I modified it for my blogs.  The section for Me I kept for appointments for both my husband and I and the other 3 sections I labeled them for the 3 blogs I do reviews for and write the review item on the date it’s due.

Expandable File Folder
– This expandable file system contains 21 pockets and comes with pre-printed and blank labels to designate folders for specific categories. Great for organizing medical and school records, or even recipes. SRP: $9.99

expandable-file-folder

This is great for anybody that has a lot of loose papers.  You can designate each folder to a certain topic and toss those loose papers in there rather than the piles they’re usually in.  This would also be great for someone into scrapbooking to separate and keep your photos until you use them.  Home organization for tax time or insurance purposes or just for bill paying  Hey, at $9.99 you can get several and be extra organized.

To view the complete line of Mead’s Organizher items just go to http://www.meadonline.com/pdfs/SellSheet-pdf.aspx.  The Organizher products can be found at Target Stores.

Now for the fun part.  I’ve been authorized to give away a $25 Target Gift Card as well as the three Organizher items I reviewed to a lucky reader.

Mandatory Entry:  Go to http://www.meadonline.com/pdfs/SellSheet-pdf.aspx to check out the products then come back here and leave a comment telling what product you like best and why.

Toshiba Gives Back in Middletown, Indiana

darrian toshiba giveaway 2

A couple of weeks ago I was approached by Toshiba with an offer to feature Toshiba laptops for the MomGadget.com Mom’s, Dad’s and Grads campaign. Being the fan of all things Toshiba, I was thrilled to do so.

After I conducted my personal review of the laptops for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, I was put to task of going out into my community and hand selecting two individuals to give them to.

After careful dancing around to make this a surprise for both the recipient and her mother, I was able to make delivery.

This is the letter I gave her along with her new laptop:

Dear Darrian,

Thanks to Toshiba and MomGadget.com, I’ve been given the privilege of being able to recognize you, your hard work, efforts and contributions to our local community with a new Toshiba laptop.

Holding two jobs and attending nursing school can’t be easy. Perhaps with a new laptop, pursuing your education will be made just a little bit easier.

You are a beautiful person, both inside and out. Your family speaks so highly of you and what few times I’ve encountered you, you’ve always been so pleasant, despite the personal load you carry.

Thanks for being such an inspiration and good luck with your education. You are going to make a wonderful nurse someday.

The thing that makes this campaign so special is the fact that I was able to be a part of a campaign that shows young people that even when they don’t think people notice, they do. Whether it’s through Facebook, MySpace, standing in line at the local convenience store, at the checkout of your neighborhood pharmacy – people do notice. People. Always. Notice.

I’ve always tried to teach my own kids that for every action there is a consequence. And sometimes, those consequences make all the hard work and effort seem worth it.

Win It! truvia – Nature’s Calorie-Free Sweetener Gift Set

 truvia in coffee

Just over a month ago, I began developing my plan to become slim and fit by Memorial Day. One of the first decisions I made was to eliminate that 1 teaspoon of sugar I was putting in my coffee each morning.

It didn’t take but one cup to convince me how difficult some of the healthy decisions I was about to make were going to be.

Within a week, I received an offer to review truvia – nature’s calorie-free sweetener.

The fact that I have ALWAYS turned my nose up at those other ‘pink’ and ‘blue’ packs of sweeteners had me wondering just how this opportunity would turn out.

I had read comments from other dieters who were discussing the stevia plant which is a natural plant used to sweeten foods without adding calories.  Most comments I’d read indicated most people were not  very fond of using Stevia because it was difficult to measure and using too much resulted in a bitter taste.

The morning after I’d received my sample, I added one packet to my coffee. And let me tell you, it was love at first sip! My coffee tastes exactly like it did when I was adding that 1 teaspoon of sugar – but this leaves no traces of guilt on my lips or my hips!

You can learn about how truvia is made by going to their website and reading about the process.  They basically steep the plant, much like tea, then purify it and make it into a powder that you and I can use in our coffee!

I love to bake and the three guys in my house love to eat – so cooking with truvia provides me with the comfort of knowing I’m providing a ‘healthier’ treat and they haven’t a clue that anything is missing. In fact truvia has recipes on their website that were created by "celebrity chef" Marisa Churchill.  Check them out here.

truvia is available at Whole Foods, Walmart and most major supermarkets.  Click here to find your closest retailer!

MyGraphite Online Diet Journal – A MomGadget Review & Mega Giveaway

February 4, 2010 by Gayla Baer
Filed under Health & Wellness, MomGadget

graphite

It doesn’t matter what Puxatony Phil says, Spring is on it’s way, is going to be here much too soon and I am growing anxious to get in shape before she arrives.

Like any girlie girl, I want to be in shape before my family begins making our weekend trips to the lakes. As well, being a girls girl, I know what a jumping jack and treadmill are – but when it comes to combining exercise and diet to make a daily regimen that works, my health intelligence goes right out the window.

Earlier today, I signed up for a website MyGraphite.com – Graphite is an online journal that allows me to enter all the data from my daily dining and computes it into recommendations of exercise required to help me burn off the necessary calories to achieve my target weight by my chosen target date.

Once I created my login, I filled out a personal profile by selecting my activity level from Desk-bound/Sitting – Lightly Active – or Very Active. A thorough description is provided of each to ensure you list your activity level properly. You might be surprised at just where you fit in.

I went on to provide my personal and health information such as height, weight and age.  Once all my personal data was listed, I clicked a button and Graphite calculated my daily calorie baseline.

I went on to set my my personal goals of how much weight I want to lose each week. what I want my target weight to be and by what date I hope to reach that weight. Based on this information I am then given a target caloric intake target along with sample activities and levels necessary to burn those calories in order to meet my set goal.

After the initial profile is set up – I am able to login throughout the day to log and track the foods I eat and liquids I drink.

Graphite genuinely takes the guessing out of weight loss and fitness. By logging your food intake throughout the day, you’ll be able to leverage off where necessary to make sure you stay within certain boundaries.

Along with my membership, Graphite provides a number of tools and resources to help me eat smart, balance energy and make the necessary changes in my lifestyle.

Ultimately we all can all try those trendy diets – but unless we are willing to make true and long-term lifestyle changes, we can’t expect the weight we lose on trendy diets to remain at bay.

So who will join me?

—————-  MomGadget Giveaway —————–

To help kick off our Spring Fling Campaign and get MomGadget readers geared up for getting in shape, Graphite has generously donated 10 lifetime memberships. LIFETIME people! These memberships are worth $50 per year!

Now – The winning doesn’t stop there though – Graphite is currently running a free 7-Day Trial so everyone who wants to try it out, can.

The Winner will be selected and notified via email on February 18th. Please be sure that the email address that you enter with is one that you check regularly, and also check your spam folder. If winners do not respond with the required information within a set time frame – another winner will be drawn in their place.
