If you’re like me, you are constantly looking for new and different gluten free snacks. Roland Foods has a unique line of rice based snacks called Feng Shui. These crackers are crunchy and different from other snacks I have found.

There are several different flavors in this line of snack crackers: Original, Maki Rolls, Wasabi, Edamame, and Nori Seaweed. All have a distinct flavor. While I have never been a fan of Wasabi, one of my friends is, and she loved the hot, spicy flavor in those. My favorite was the original, which offers a salty crunch and not too spicy.
All flavors of Feng Shui Snack Crackers are gluten free. I found them for sale at Snack Aisle for $1.99 per 3.5 ounce bag. For more information, check out the website of Roland Foods.

If you’re a Mets fan and eat gluten free, you can now get gluten free snackes at Citifield!
A partner of the Mets since 2008, and official pudding of the team, all Kozy Shack® puddings and gels are gluten-free and will now be available along with additional food products in a branded gluten-free food cart for easier recognition by fans. The Mets developed the stand-alone cart in response to one of the most common requests from fans, who asked for a gluten-free concession. In addition to Kozy Shack® gluten-free snacks, the cart will also feature hot dogs and hamburgers with gluten-free buns and gluten-free beer. Baseball fans can locate the cart on Field Level in the right field corner, just outside the World’s Fare Market.
But even if you don’t get to Citifield, you can get Kozy Shack puddings in the dairy case of your local grocery store. They sent me several flavors to try–my husband and I were pleasantly surprised at how very good they are. The Original Rice pudding was delicious. It tasted like home made!
I took some of the Chocolate to a cook out, and everyone there loved it. It was very smooth, and had a very good chocolate flavor.
Kozy Shack has been making pudding since 1967. You can enjoy their all natural, kettle cooked puddings guilt free knowing that each is made with real dairy milk, is a good source of calcium and has no hydrogenated oils or preservatives. That they are gluten free is an added bonus for those of us who must eat a gluten free diet.
Kozy Shack puddings come in a wide variety of flavors: The Original Rice, Chocolate, Banana, Tapioca, Eurpean Style Rice, and Cinnamon Raisin Rice. The No Sugar Added flavors include Chocolate, Rice, and Tapioca. And the Simplywell line offers Dark Chocolate, Mangosteen Pear, Lemon Ginger, Green Tea Chai, and FrenchVanilla.

Want a healthier, good for you, great tasting snack? Then you need to take a look at these new chips from Beanitos. Doug and Dave Foreman, the owners of Bean Brand Foods, say “Beanitos is a nutritional powerhouse: a corn free, gluten free, low glycemic, 100% whole bean snack chip packed with Omega 3′s, protein and fiber.” They are also high in fiber and contain 2 1/2 times the protein of corn or potato chips. I say, they are quite tasty and filling as a snack.
As a Celiac and type II diabetic, I am always looking for foods that I can eat without getting sick from the gluten, and that don’t have too much sugar. These chip fit that description. The things that make Beanitos so healthy and delicious are real ingredients, nutritious calories, and beans. Beans are naturally loaded with health benefits such as vitamins and minerals.
Beanitos come in two varieties: Black Bean and Pinto Bean with Flax Seeds. The Black Bean flavor has 5 grams of fiber and 140 calories in a 10 chip serving. To get the same amount of fiber from potato chips, you would 75 chips with 750 calories. And potato chips offer no Omega 3′s at all!
Beanitos suggested retail price is $3.99 for a 6 oz. bag and can be found in many stores nationwide, including H-E-B and Whole Foods. If you can’t find them at your favorite local store, visit the Beanitos website to download a product fact sheet to give the manager nex time you go. Order them online at Snack Warehouse.

Southern Recipe Pork Rinds From Rudolph Foods

Looking for a crunchy, salty snack that is delicious and gluten free? Southern Recipe Pork Rinds are just the thing for you! Pork rinds are a family tradition around the world. Generations of families have grown up enjoying pork rind snacks.
Southern Recipe Pork Rinds were created from a family recipe at Rudolph Foods in 1955. Since then, Rudolph Foods has grown to be the world’s largest producer of pork rinds. In blind label consumer testing in four cities, pork rinds from Rudolph Foods were preferred by a wide margin over other brands because of their taste and appealing crispness. I wasn’t a part of those tests, but I agree that these pork rinds are better tasting than others I have tried. They don’t taste “greasy” or heavy at all. They just have a crispy, crunchiness that I love.
These pork rinds come in five flavors–Sweet BBQ, Bar-B-Q, Salt & Vinegar, Spicy Hot, and Original. While I am not so much a fan of hot things, I love the Original and the Salt & Vinegar flavors. My friend, Rob, tried the Spicy Hot and Bar-B-Q flavors and says they are great, too!
High in protein, low in cholesterol and carbohydrate-free, a serving of pork rinds has approximately 80 calories, 9 grams o protein, 10 mg of cholesterol, and 5 grams of fat, most of which is unsaturated fat. That means a serving of pork rinds is higher in protein and lower in fat than a serving o peanuts! And, they are gluten free, which is the #1 thing I look for in snacks for myself.
You can learn more about Rudolph Foods and Southern Recipe Pork Rinds at their website. Be sure to check out the Man Cave–a fun site to explore with a chance to win a T-shirt.

The package says “Our gluten free chicken nuggets are ready to heat, so you can spend more time tickling your kids.” Don’t you just love that?

They are produced from vegetarian grain fed chickens, and no antibiotics are used. Manischewitz Gluten Free Products

I have been eating a gluten free diet for three years now, so I am always looking for new and different gluten free foods. When I was asked to try some products from the Manischewitz company, I really was surprised to learn that they have so many gluten free items in their line.

If you’re like me, you have probably seen their products on the shelves in grocery stores and never given them a second thought. After all, I’m not Jewish, and I am not restricted to a kosher diet.
Manischewitz has been in business for 120 years, and are the largest manufacturer of processed kosher food products in the country. “Today, a growing number of consumers are buying kosher products, not for religious reasons, but because they perceive these products to be “healthier” like organic and natural food.”(* from the Manischewitz website). Their Health Corner page has a long list of not only gluten free items, but several other allergens free items as well.
They sent me samples of some of their products, and I have to tell you, all of them that I have tried are really good.

The Potato Pancake Mix was very easy to prepare-just add an egg and water, let sit for five minutes, and fry up. They were quite tasty as a side dish for either breakfast or dinner, and needed no additional seasonings
The Chicken Broth made a delicious batch of southern style chicken and dumplings. And the Chocolate Chip Macaroons were divine!

Because they were so generous with their samples, I am having a give away to share them. I would love to keep them all for myself, but I live in a tiny RV trailer and have no room to store them all. If you would like to win a gift pack consisting of 1 of each of the 10 items I received, here is what you need to do:
Check out the Manischewitz website, and then come back here and leave a comment, telling me what item in their product line you would like most.
And for a second chance to win, check out the review of Manischewitz products at FabGrandma Reviews, and leave a comment there. I’ll be giving away three prizes in all, open to United States residents only. Last day to enter will be February 14, 2010.
Earth Balance Natural Buttery Spread

Earth Balance Natural Buttery Spread
My husband and I have been butter eaters for years, but we have been thinking lately that we want to eat a little healthier than in the past. He has never liked butter substitute products, including margarine, so I was a little afraid when I received several coupons for free samples of products from Earth Balance that he wouldn’t eat it. He agreed to give it a try though.
Earth Balance is made by the same people who make Smart Balance. While I haven’t tried either brand, I have seen Smart Balance products in grocery stores. Here in rural Alabama, I had to search around to find Earth Balance. I did find it at the Publix in Tuscaloosa, but only the Earth Balance Natural Buttery Spread Original. The 15 oz container cost $3.49.
The first taste of Earth Balance Natural Buttery Spread Original was a spread on a slice of gluten free bread. Both my husband and I were surprised that it really did taste like butter. He asked for a second slice of bread, which was a great compliment to this product.

The second taste test was in some scrambled eggs I made for breakfast. I was wondering if the product would hold up to the heat of cooking. Some margarines I have used in the past became watery in the skillet when I tried cooking with them, which is one of the reasons I don’t like using them. This product didn’t separate out and get watery in cooking, and I was happy with that. The finished product tasted just like they had been cooked in butter. This morning, we used it on our pancakes.

Earth Balance Natural Buttery Spread Original is gluten free, lactose free, vegan, non-GMO and has 100 calories per tablespoon. I was happy to see on their website that they also make a soy free version, as I am trying to eliminate as much soy from our diet as possible.
Ingredients: Certified Non-GMO) Expeller –pressed natural oil blend (soybean, palm fruit, canola, and olive), filtered water, pure salt, natural flavor (derived from corn, no msg, no alcohol, no gluten), soy protein, soy lecithin, lactic acid (non-dairy, derived from sugar beets), and naturally extracted annatto for color.
In addition to the Original and Soy Free Buttery Spread, Earth Balance also makes shortening, peanut butter, and almond butter. For more information, check out their website.
