Organizher by Mead Review and Giveaway

capture1

It’s getting harder and harder to get organized and once I think I’ve gotten there it’s almost impossible to stay there.  If you don’t believe me take a look at my desk.  Paper everywhere, some in stacks and some, well, not in stacks but as I said ALL OVER.  You can imagine my delight when I was offered the chance to review the Organizher by Mead.

Organizher is not one product but many all with one goal in mind. To keep your life organized and allow you the time you’d normally spend sorting through stacks and stacks of papers, shuffling them from one pile into another new pile just to find the one you wrote that appointment or phone number on.

Meade has 15 items in the Organizher line that include

Customizable Solutions
Whether it’s a Shopping Companion to manage your “to-buys”, a Family Organizer for all your planning and scheduling needs, or an Expense Tracker, these Organizher products feature Tech Lock® technology – rings that open and close easily so you can add, subtract and customize with your own documents or free downloadable templates available at Mead.com

Calendars/Time Management
We know how hard it is to keep track of a family’s busy life, as well as what’s for dinner. With Organizher’s time management products like the Month-to-Month Family Wall Calendar and On-the-Go Family Planner, you can plan ahead while keeping today’s priorities in close view.

Meal Planning
Keep track of your shopping list and plan meals for the week ahead with Organizher’s convenient Write-n-Wipe Meal Cente rand Meal Planning Magnetic Notepad. Both products easily hang on a fridge for convenient access when and where you need it most.

On-the-Go Solutions
The portable sizes of Organizher’s On-the-Go Memo Book and Stay-in-Touch Address Book are perfect for a purse, briefcase or diaper bag, allowing you to take your planning anywhere!

I got to pick a few that I thought would fit me to use and review so I chose.

Magnetic Calendar Center  – An undated weekly paper calendar keeps track of your family’s busy life, while a dry erase area lets you track changing priorities and to do’s as the week progresses. SRP: $15.99

magnetic-calendar-center2

This is great for the family with a lot going on.  There are sections for yourself and up to 3 family members plus a place to note dinner ideas.  In addition at the bottom is a dry erase area for quick notes or if you’re like me, items I need to add to the shopping list.

On the Go Family Planner – Keep track of your family’s busy life, as well as what’s for dinner with All Me,All Them, and Chow sections in this tabbed planner. Also includes a repositionable bookmark, sections to log important information and a “Dates to Remember” section. SRP: $9.99

family-organizer

This is a mini version of the Magnetic Calendar Center.  You can keep this on your desk, in the car or just about anyplace you want.  Like the Magnetic Calendar Center it has a section all for you, up to 3 members of your family and a section for notes.  I have to admit, I don’t use this the way it’s intended.  I modified it for my blogs.  The section for Me I kept for appointments for both my husband and I and the other 3 sections I labeled them for the 3 blogs I do reviews for and write the review item on the date it’s due.

Expandable File Folder
– This expandable file system contains 21 pockets and comes with pre-printed and blank labels to designate folders for specific categories. Great for organizing medical and school records, or even recipes. SRP: $9.99

expandable-file-folder

This is great for anybody that has a lot of loose papers.  You can designate each folder to a certain topic and toss those loose papers in there rather than the piles they’re usually in.  This would also be great for someone into scrapbooking to separate and keep your photos until you use them.  Home organization for tax time or insurance purposes or just for bill paying  Hey, at $9.99 you can get several and be extra organized.

To view the complete line of Mead’s Organizher items just go to http://www.meadonline.com/pdfs/SellSheet-pdf.aspx.  The Organizher products can be found at Target Stores.

Now for the fun part.  I’ve been authorized to give away a $25 Target Gift Card as well as the three Organizher items I reviewed to a lucky reader.

Soirée: Wine Aeration with a Touch of Elegance

February 7, 2010 by Susan Warren Utley
Filed under Food & Beverage, Gadget Dad, MomGadget

soiree_modern_pour
A Wine Connoisseur I am not. You might even say I am somewhat intimidated by wine and the wine culture. While I do enjoy a glass of wine now and again, I tend to rely heavily on the knowledge of my friends to choose the wine. I play it safe when purchasing wine for home and stay within my comfort zone gravitating toward the sweeter, lighter wines and sticking with a few tried and true favorites. My dining experiences with darker wines caused me to avoid them for fear I wouldn’t enjoy the stronger tasting flavors.

When I was given the opportunity to review the Soirée bottle top wine aerator, I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to expand my horizons. The Soirée promised to help improve the aroma and flavor of any wine. Maybe it could help me develop a bit more confidence when selecting and enjoying a darker wine.

My first stop was the Soirée website to read a bit about the product and the importance of aerating wine. Two sections, Why Decant and Soirée Science, provided me with valuable information. I learned that oxygen actually stimulates wine bringing out flavors and smells that are lying dormant. Did you know the aroma of wine actually changes as it sits in your glass? The longer it sits, the more oxygen it is exposed to, the better it smells and tastes. A few swirls in the glass actually aerates the wine even more. The Soirée eliminates both the wait time and the need to swirl. Pouring wine through the Soirée aerates the wine and infuses it with oxygen as it pours into your glass.

facts_list_reduce

Before addressing the actual testing of the Soirée, I want to talk a bit about the product itself. First, it is stunning. Elegant hand blown glass is not something that you would typically associate with the term “gadget.” While beautiful to look at, it is a fragile object and care must be taken in the use and cleaning of this product. An included stand doubles as a drying rack so this helps to avoid breakage while storing and drying your Soirée. Unlike traditional wine aerators where the wine is poured through the aerator, the Soirée actually fits directly into the opening of the wine bottle. It does come with two sizes of gaskets which fit most bottles, but it does not accommodate all bottle openings. A larger size or a more universal gasket would be a nice addition.

contents_pkg

My experience has always been pour the wine, drink the wine. Perhaps this “from bottle to glass to lips” method contributed to my apprehension towards dark wines. The wine was never given the opportunity to win me over with its true flavors.

To test the Soirée, I selected a 2008 Alamos Malbec from Argentina. After reading up on the 100 point system for evaluating wine, I chose this wine as it consistently rated 87+ and earned a 90 from Wine Spectator. I also selected it because of its reasonable price and availability. Using my customary pour and drink method, my first sip was a little too bitter and aggressive for my liking. Despite the bite, I expected more taste and depth from such a dark wine.

how-to-sequence

I then fitted the bottle with the Soirée and slowly inverted the bottle above my glass. I loved watching the Soirée in action as the wine swirled within the glass ball and tumbled into my glass. Surprisingly enough, I did not experience any splash effect. Every drop went into my glass and when I finished pouring, the wine in the Soirée slid right back into the bottle. My second sip of the Malbec was much more satisfying than the first. No longer did I detect the bitterness from the first sampling and there was a lot more flavor and depth to the wine.

My overall impression of the Soirée is that it lives up to its claims and delivers on its promises. While I may not be completely in tune with the science of wine and what makes one wine rate higher than another, as a novice wine drinker, I can truly appreciate the fact that wine tastes better when aerating with the Soirée.

When my kids were little, I don’t think they had such cute furniture options as the ones at Wink. Wink is a Miami based company that specializes in personalized gifts, educational toys, bedding and children’s home décor.  There are lots of cute, useful items for children of all ages, such as their Minky fitted crib sheets and their bedding sets for boys’ and girls’ rooms.

I love the abstract, modern look of their furniture pieces. How cute is this table and chair set for the little ones?

While their furniture can help create a one of a kind feel to your child’s room, your purchase will also help a child in Columbia receive a much needed pair of glasses. For every sale of $100, WINK donates a full eye exam and eyeglasses to a child in need.

My favorite item from their website catalog is this adorable toy sewing machine. I love that it has a bobbin–most toy ones don’t. It even comes with fabric and instructions for making a wrap skirt!sewing-toy

While their prices are kind of on the high end, their products look like good quality merchandise that would stand up to daily use.  Wink is creative, fun, and would make a very cheerful room for any child.

V-MODA’s Faze Headphone with Microphone

January 27, 2010 by Susan Warren Utley

faze_on-white_best-buyThe iPod has come a long way since its inception in 2001.  Apple has given us photo storage, internet access and convenient apps. We have seen the iPod grow in storage size and shrink in physical size. The one thing that has not changed much is the earphones. While I love my new iPod Touch, I find the earphones uncomfortable and ill fitting.

V-MODA’s Faze headphone is a comfortable alternative to Apple’s supplied earphones. Unlike the large plastic iPod earbuds, the Faze comes with three sizes of silicone fittings in both clear and black.  The silicone fittings conform to the shape of your ear and stay put during physical activity so you can work out without having your earphones fall out.  They are very comfortable and actually reduce outside noise so you can enjoy your music.  A control button located on the cord allows you to pause your music with a single click. You can also track forward or track back. Want to record a voice memo on your iPod?  The Faze has a built in microphone.  Just open the Voice Memo app, press record and start speaking. The Faze is also compatible with your personal computer.  I tested the Faze on my MacBook to record a Podcast with GarageBand.  It worked great. Got a call coming in on your iPhone? A single click answers the call and a single click ends the call.

If you are thinking of giving your sweetheart the gift of music this Valentine’s Day, whether it be an iPod, iPhone, Blackberry or other MP3 player, make sure to include V-MODA’s Faze headphones.  Comfortable, convenient and compatible with a variety of devices, the Faze is sure to make your loved one smile from ear to ear.

Black Helmet Apparel…Casual Firefighter Wear

January 24, 2010 by Dee Marie

Just recently I was introduced to Black Helmet Apparel.com- –an online store founded by a Fireman for Firefighters.
“Black Helmet Apparel is the future of firefighter casual wear and has is a clothing line  firefighters can be proud to wear.”  As far as I know, it  is the only one of its kind and a great way to represent  while off duty.

I had the opportunity to review a couple of their items and I was quite impressed. All the designs are hand drawn, and unique. The images you will find relay the fearless, but frightening side of a firefighter’s job. The sayings on the shirts are simple and straight to the point –Smoke Showin’. Aggressive Attack. Adapt and Overcome. Fight Fire. Fire Out.  You have your choice of a T-shirts, Hoodies, or Polos, which ever suits your style.  They also have apparel for women and kids too.

The shirts I received were for males so my husband played a part in helping me with this review.

The first shirt was the Adapt and Overcome Classic Fit Firefighter Tee. The artwork and design on this shirt was great and the message even more—It read: “Sometimes you have to think outside the box. You can’t game plan for everything. All you can do is Adapt and Overcome”.

adapt-teeadapttee2

Next up was the Black Helmet Polo Shirt. Nice and sporty for the more dress up occasion. This one was a complete winner.  The perfect color, fabric and style.  It was also very comfortable.  According to him, the best aspect of this shirt was the ventilation panels and the ultra-dry technology of Dri-Mesh.

bhpolobhpolo2

In general, the shirts were done with great style, comfort-ability and good quality in mind.  I must say, the website does no justice, they are a lot better in person. These would make a great Valentine’s Day gift for the Firefighter in your life, the Wife of a Firefighter, Mom, Dad, or Kid of one.

Don’t worry if you don’t know someone personally who would love this gift. Grab one for yourself in honor of the many fire fighters who put their lives on the line each day. Black Helmet Apparel is committed to supporting the firefighter community and contribute a portion of all profits to not for profit charities and foundations. See the list here.

Footzyrolls

January 5, 2010 by denice
Filed under Beauty & Style, Gifts & Flowers

black-pack-big

Footzyrolls sent me a pair of their rollable, foldable shoes to try.  Footzyrolls were designed to be carried in your purse or handbag for use when your feet cannot tolerate your toe pinching, arch aching heels any longer.

My foot is a 6.5 Wide and I ordered a Small which fits sizes 6-7.  I should have listened to their note that said if you wear a wide shoe bump the size up. The shoes fit but my toes were pinched.  Footzyrolls was kind enough to send me a medium and the test was on.  I wore these around the house, when I was outside and forgot I had shoes on at all.  They are comfortable and the sole is sturdy enough to protect your feet with a slight cush in the heel for added comfort.

At a price of $25-$30 and colors for everyday, special occassions and weddings Footzyrolls should be on everyone’s must buy list.   You can order Footzyrolls form their website or retailers nationwide.
