Simply Successful Secrets

My friend Char tapped me earlier for the Simply Successful Secrets meme. It’s not too often that I feel compelled to participate in meme’s but today was different - very different in fact.

When I went to check out what Char was up to now I found myself drawn in by two key elements of this particular meme.

1. The effort behind this meme is sharing secrets of success to help others achieve success as well. I’ve always been one that finds the greatest rewards in giving to others, so naturally, this one would appeal to me.

2. The man behind the meme is a person I’ve known for a very long time and had lost touch with some years ago. I know his character and have always felt that he was one of those people who was just lucky enough to be born with a midas touch.

Do you ever get the feeling that the man upstairs has been trying to tell you something and you’ve just been naive enough to miss the message? Well let me tell you, the big guy has to practically hit me with a mack truck sometimes, but I eventually GET IT!

The message today was this is something I have to do! One of my newest friends re-introducing me to one of my older friends. How cool is that?

Anyway, enough rambling, so on with the Secrets of My Success.

1. Scheduling - I keep a list of all my blogs hanging next to my computer. Each day I process through that list until all blogs have received their post. If I happen to miss one, that’s where I pick up the next day. This helps me to keep track of where my priorities need to be directed each day.

2. Constant Learning - I’ve often compared my brain to a sponge. One that starves for learning something new. Each day I set out with several goals, one of which is to learn something new. Whether a design trick or a blog plugin or even a new household tip, I’m thrilled to close each day having learned a new trick or two.

3. Call My Parents - I know this sounds silly, but every single day, sometimes several times a day, I call my parents. I don’t get to see them very often and I know all too well what it’s like to live with regrets, so I make sure my parents know how important they are to me now.

4. Early to Bed, Early to Rise - I hate wasting a day sleeping. I might miss something. I’ve found my mind is sharper and my attitude much better since I’ve been getting proper amount of sleep. The family appreciates it too.

5. Quality Time with Family - Much the same as with my parents, I make sure I log off the computer each day when the kiddos get home. I spend time with them, doing homework, talk about their day and just spend time together. If they have other things to do later, I may log back on, but for now, family is most important. I just gave up weekends about a year ago. It was actually easier to quit smoking then it was to quit working weekends.

6. I Read - I realized a few years ago that things run much more smoothly when I’m good to myself first. I take care of my mind, I relax and by spending time reading, I’m able to offer a better “me” to my family.

7. Avoiding Stress - Nothing brings me down more then a heavy load of stress. I’ve learned to use the word “no” more often and to not pick up my phone sometimes when I just don’t feel strong enough to stand against the negative influences.

I’d love to read what your secrets are!

I’m going to tag a few fellow bloggers but this is one of those meme’s that should be kept going. So if you happen to pick this up from MomGadget let me know, I’d be happy to provide a link over to your Successful Secrets post.

Thanks for sharing your secrets. I see that a lot of them have to do with right relationships. I heartily agree with that.

    This will take some thought!

In the meantime, I look forward to reading (and learning from) some of the other “secrets.”

  2. Gayla!

I am still in pleasant shock over the fact that you and I “ran” into each other via this meme, even given the vast sea of billions of web pages that are out there.

I have found the Simply Successful Secrets project to have far more value than I anticipated in the beginning, and if finding an old friend isn’t value, then I don’t know what it is. :)
As to your list, it smacks of pop tart counting… LOL (just kidding)

It’s a GREAT list, actually, and with as many things as you obviously have going on in your life, the fact that you prioritize in such a way that everything gets handled while still making plenty of time for yourself and for your family is exactly the stuff that success is made of.

You rock, your list is awesome, and once again, it’s nice to “see” you again after all this time!

p.s. - Everyone is welcome to participate in this meme. The master list that I post at the end will include links to all participants, so it will be a literal “who’s who” of real people out there in the world who are making sure their lives actually happen on a daily basis.

Yeah, I can live with it. :)

Thanks for the tag, Gayla. Will pass it on and drop you a note when ready.

  4. In my opinion all the things that you mentioned are a must know, but “Avoiding the Stress” is something priceless. This is the nectar, this is the gold of a happy life! ;)
Those who understand what I’m talking about know how things work in life when you properly understand how to manage and avoid stress.

Thanks for the post ;) Charlie R
