Remember when you had to get up and walk across the room

…to change the channel on your television? Or worse yet, your dad would utilize you as his remote and have you change the channels.
Then we progressed to the remote control! Ahh, the good old days of spending 15 minutes looking for a lost remote before you could EVER think about changing the television.
Well guess what, there’s a new gadget that Toshiba has cooked up that can read hand signals from 10 feet away!
That’s right! You don’t even have to have a remote OR a kid to change the channels anymore!
Check this:
It lets you control a DVD player with hand motions — without touching a clicker or keyboard.
The laptop-based technology runs on the company’s new “SpursEngine” chip, which can process motion detected by a camera and turn it into commands to control a DVD player. It’s based on the same Cell chip design that powers Sony’s PlayStation 3 gaming console.

While it may be as expensive as having a kid in the beginning, I’m sure it will be like everything and drop in price.
Imagine, just imagine - this is more exciting than the Clapper!
I’m putting it on my Christmas list for 2010 right now!

Heh heh, I get to answer “no” to the first question!
Still, hand signals! That is pretty cool! Soon all our houses will be like the computer in Minority Report, this is just the start.

The thing I remember about the old days when my parents used to make me change the channel is that there were only really 4 or 5 channels to choose from. These days you can spend a half hour just cycling through all of them and still end up with nothing better to watch than “What Not To Wear.”
