Toys
Just when you thought shopping for toys was limited due to the recent lead scare, Marcie is keeping an ongoing list offering you some of the best places to shop for SAFE toys!
For the Reader

For all you late night readers – Randa’s husband found the perfect gift in a Book Light Wedge. She’s able to stay up late and read while hubby gets some z’s. It’s a win win for Randa!
More Toys

Sometimes I think only parents can truly appreciate Magna toys. With three boys in the house, Magna toys were some of our favorites, instantly! Magna produces the modern day version of building blocks – with just a little help in keeping the castle from tumbling. Magna Blocks, you can’t go wrong!
Gadgets
Marcie at My Two Boys is offering up a little inside scoop on gadgets for the whole family. If you’re at a loss on what to get mom, dad or kiddo, take a peek in and see what is topping out the Pickelsimer’s wish list this year.
Tea Lovers
Do you need some tea party-related gifts this holiday season for yourself or someone else? Tea Party Girl has compiled a list of tea style gifts that will keep you from guessing!
and More Toys…
Worried about lead in your children’s toys? Don’t be: Lucy has compiled a list of five fantastic groups of toys that are completely free from lead, and will let your children’s imaginations run free…
1. Wooden Building Blocks
The appeal of these never fades, because they let children create a world of their own imagination - and these days, they come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, for children from about 2 upwards.
For a simple start, try the Melissa and Doug 60 piece blocks, to help your child with coordination and fine motor control. But the options are wide …
Is your child studying the Romans? How about the HABA Roman Coliseum blocks? Or expand their horizons with the Russian House
, Mayan Temple
or Medieval Castle
- even a Melissa and Doug Treehouse Playset
! They didn’t have those when I was young!
The play value of these bricks is huge, as your child will play with these for years. Then you can put them away for your grandchildren, and they’ll still be popular.
2. Dressing Up
This is so important for children’s development. Provide them with a range of dressing up items, from your old hats and handbags to purpose-made items such as fairy dresses, princess dresses ninjas or musketeers
, and pirate outfits
. I don’t know what it is about pirates, but they never go out of fashion!
If you provide a range of different clothes and lengths of fabric, they’ll create their own games and even put on plays for your (endless) entertainment. So good for their confidence and great fun too.
3. Arts and Crafts
You can never go wrong by providing a child with pens, pencils, paints and other creative supplies, and these are so important educationally.
What about this 108 piece art set? Or, for your older cihld, this wonderful studio art set
?
Art supplies are always running out at our house, and so this would be gratefully received by the parents, as well as the children - and it would make Christmas much more peaceful than if they’d received a drum kit. (Please, Santa, don’t bring a drum-kit to our house - I promise I’ve been good!)
4. Castle
We’ve had endless play from our wooden castle … and add a few knights, a dragon and a princess, and you’ve got a whole story to create. We recommend the Schleich Knights Castle, because you can rearrange the elements to create different configurations, and add more and more elements to create a bigger castle with more walls, ladders and steps, and add in weapons such as a catapult, with people to populate this world, such as knights, dragons and horses. Fantastic!
5. Dolls house
And not just for the girls! We have had a dolls house for 10 years now, and all my children, boys and girls - even the eldest, who is 12 - were playing with it this morning. Such good play value … We bought Fisher Price, and haven’t regretted it, though if buying again now, I think I’d buy a wooden one
, not plastic. Like the castle above, make sure you buy one with lots of bits you can buy to add in later - that way your gift problems are solved for years to come!
The Gardner
For those gardeners or aspiring gardeners on your holiday shopping list – check out this unique bird feeder, these nature books for children and if that’s not what you’re looking for, Linette has a list of 5 gifts that any gardener would love to receive.
The Person Who Has Everything…
What do you gift the person who has absolutely EVERYTHING? A Tree! Did you know you could have a tree planted for anyone, anywhere? That’s right! If your friend or loved one always wanted to grow roots in Florida, now they can! Sorta…

If there’s an animal lover on your list, you don’t have to buy a puppy this year, you can adopt a wolf in their name. What an amazing way to help our planet and some of God’s forgotten creatures. The Grey Wolf has decreased to a minimal existence and needs our help to survive. Again, for that person who has everything, consider saving a family of Grey Wolves in their name. What an honor that would be!
The Picture Lover
Do you love to take photos? Not so handy with the graphics editing programs that are out there? Perhaps you should consider something that gives you more control over your editing such as the Wacom Graphire Tablet that’s recently found it’s way onto the personal wish list of Linette. Hey, if you know Linette’s husband, tell him he could score BIG points with this!
Teens and Tweens

What tween doesn’t love High School Musical? It’s the hot ticket on the list of every tween this year – or darn near it. Here is a complete High School Musical Holiday Gift Guide for you to check out so you can be the cool parent on the block.

Gayla,
I am so sorry I missed out on this! I got so caught up in Project Blog and my day jobs this week that I completely forgot about your gift guide.
Luckily you’ve assembled some truly wonderful suggestions here and I will be using it to do my shopping online for the holidays.
