Google Has It In Mommy Blogs?
I have to be very honest when I say that I’ve never placed too much stock in Google on any website OR blog that I write - well, because it’s only the health related site/blog I have that generates much profit from Adsense - and to be quite frank, TLA and like services don’t venture into that sector of the blogosphere much.
Why? I have NO idea, because it IS hugely profitable.
Maybe the whole page rank has nothing to do with Adsense at all. I’m not sure anyone will ever figure out the precise formula for snuggling up with Google.
I’ve toyed with placing Adsense on my other blogs from time to time, I’ve even tried to tweak the ads - but still, nothing earth shattering to report.
As well, I’ve never placed that much stock in the whole Google Page Rank system. Maybe I’m wrong, but I enjoy writing for my readers, not for Google! And if the time comes that I ever do start writing for Google and the temptation of page rank, it will be time for me to hang up my keyboard and find something else.
Maybe I’m leaning a bit more on the naive side like Izzy who commented on the Google Cracks Down on the Mommy Bloggers post by eMom’s Wendy Piersall - maybe I’m wrong, but given the level of stress the drop in page rank gives, I’d much rather be on the side of the Google-tards, writing what makes me and my readers happy and earning what I can, where I can - than to jump when Google says jump.
Don’t get me wrong - I like Google - I think they have a great service - BUT It brings back memories of being a buyer for a convenience store chain and being pushed around by the largest of the large beverage and tobacco companies for prime space in my stores.
I didn’t give in then and it’s not likely that I’ll give in now.
If ad space is going to be more profitable selling TLA than placing Google Ads, then why not go for the TLA’s?
If you have a great brand, product and site, readers will find you. It’s always been said the best form of advertisement is word of mouth, not word of Google!

I think it really depends on the site–the cap on TLA’s (in my experience) is about $200/m and while AdSense in the same spot might only earn $120 you’re not giving away the credibility of your site that comes with directly linking through TLA’s. It’s not necessarily the PageRank per se, it’s the credit you’re passing that you could be giving to another more profitable site you own. Just a thought.

Dr. Frugal, If you can actually get people to click Adsense ads, then sure they can be profitable. With TLA, however, at least you know you’re getting money every month. I’ve never been able to say that about Adsense.

I have to agree with Izzy. I find it difficult to believe that just having Adsense appear on your blog gives it any more credibility than TLA. Perhaps you’re not being spammed by the same splogs I’ve seen.
Furthermore, I think I think it makes a blog look more valuable to see that there are actually companies who find it useful to place the text link ads. That shows value - not some random Google Ad.
