Gloves in a Bottle - A MomGadget Review

When you live on a farm, are as active at digging in the dirt or taking care of the farm animals, everyday activities can begin to take its toll on your hands. I’d nearly given up on having long luxurious nails again, let alone cuticals that didn’t look like I’d tried to harvest a crop and get a manicure with using the same tools.
It’s rare that my husband finds a product he likes that will rise above the old wives tale remedies that are offered up by the remaining matriarchs of our families who remember ways of treating everything with lard, onions, salt, vinegar or white lightening. But Gloves in a Bottle is one that he continues to sing the praises of.
After a hard days work, just before retiring in the evenings, Gadget Dad slathers a bit of Gloves in a Bottle on his hands, elbows and heels for maximum coverage. While I admit to liking working man hands, I do like them to be less ‘manly’ and coarse then a pack of 20-grit sandpaper.
When it comes to hand creams, you can bet this family puts them to the most rigorous testing possible. Gloves in a Bottle passed our testing with flying colors and then some. It’s one of those products that you will grow to love so much that you’ll accept no substitutes - we all have a few of those, don’t we? And what’s better is, it smells soooo much better then lard, vinegar and onions.
Now that I’ve told you how we feel about Gloves in a Bottle, here’s what the product specs have to say:
Gloves in a Bottle is a shielding lotion that rapidly absorbs into, and bonds with, the outer layer of skin creating a protective layer while retaining the natural moisture from within. This makes it the perfect dry skin care product.
It does not wash off, but comes off naturally with exfoliated skin cells. Just reapply every four hours for continued protection.
It’s greaseless, non-sticky, fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, completely safe and non-toxic.
Used and recommended daily for dry skin conditions by a wide range of healthcare professionals.
An 8 oz. bottle is 120 applications, and, sells for $12.95 and for families as large and hard on their hands as mine is, there’s a gallon size too!

Avon used to have a product like this, they may still have. It was called Silicon Glove.
The first couple of years I moved away from home in the early 80s I promptly dropped out of college after a semester, formed a hardcore punk band, and got a place downtown. I had a day job as a grader for a large comic book mail order company. I sat in a warehouse adjacent to the main facility with my best friend, the singer in my band, and graded comics from 7am til 3pm. Actually with how hung over we always were, and how much fun we had working together in a big warehouse by ourselves, it was probably only 2-3 hours of actual work a day.
Anyway, I would begin a pallet, and start grading, sorting and boxing up comics to go next door to the main warehouse. You can imagine handling old paper all day how dry my hands got. On top of that, my hands would get so filthy from the ink that a mechanic would be embarassed.
My mom gave me a tube of the Avon Silicon Glove, and I never again had a problem with chapped hands, and they cleaned up great.

Wow, I hadn’t thought about Avon’s Silicon Glove in years! I got really mad at my mom one year because that’s what she had for me to give as a teacher gift. The tube and packaging wasn’t girly or pretty and I was mortified that I was giving such a plain Jane gift. Mother kept telling me that it was going to make her hands feel so good that it didn’t matter that it wasn’t a flashy box! I was not convinced, but my teacher seemed to enjoy it because she used it up and asked if I knew an Avon lady that she could call to get some more! If Gloves in a Bottle is anywhere close, it’s good stuff!
