Are You a Selfish Blogger?

FollowMeUntil yesterday, I had no idea that I was being a selfish hostess on my blogs to the point of even cheating YOU out outbound links - even when you would place your website URL in the optional field of the comment form. It wasn’t being recognized.

Most everyone who has a blog or a website will know that improving the Google Page Rank of your site is key when it comes to 1. being found 2. increasing your audience and 3. increasing your strength in the area of monetizing (more money!).

That’s all been fixed now!

Now you can get a nice outbound link simply by leaving a comment on my blog with your website or blog URL added to the optional ‘website’ field in the comment form found attached to any post here on MomGadget.

Now that I’ve stopped being a stingy blogger - every comment or trackback you leave here on MomGadget will result in an outgoing link from my site to yours. The search engines LOVE this! And YOU will too!

Can you believe the majority of blogs don’t allow this? Most blogging software has “rel=nofollow” automatically added to comment URLs. Initially, it was a good idea and was created to combat spam, but with programs like Akismet, there’s really no reason to cheat yourself and your readers out of this rewarding link collaboration. And it’s much better then doing a blogroll!

I took the advice of David and Dawud and have installed the Wordpress plugin that removes the “nofollow” code, because I want to be a generous blogger and to encourage more discussion here on MomGadget.

Don’t be shy! Comment and link! It’s a good thing :)
I’m also going to follow suit and link to a few others who have taken this same position — so commenting on any of the following blogs will also provide outbound links pointing right to you!

Generous Link Loving Bloggers:

If you add remove the nofollow and add dofollow to your blog, please let me know. I’d love to send happy commentors your way!

    Thank you for this information.

I always wondered about this “no follow” because it’s pretty easy to delete comments that are SPAM anyway. I am still learning about blogs so i’m reading all i can get my hands on!

    VHDLit hi! hice site!

  3. Ex Smoker says:

Here’s a question…how do you know someone is spamming? I mean, I could be spamming right now, here to “only” get a link in - or, I could actually be contributing to the conversation and dropping a link at the same time.

I mean…I know it’s confusing but I always delete the posts that really just have nothing to say. Spammer or no…either way, there is no contribution to my converation. So..If a spammer takes part in conversation, are they still a spammer?
    :)

  4. Heart and Style is now a “do follow” site.

  16. Great post!…and no, you’re not a selfish blogger! I think we all can be at times, but that’s just the nature of blogging - you gotta do what it takes to make you blog visible so people can read your stuff.

  17. Matt Keegan says:

No, I don’t think that you are a selfish blogger either.

My blogs are set up to allow comments, but they cannot be brief (one-liners) nor do I approve comments that are “attaboy” in nature.

U Follow/I Follow is meant to remind people that their comments are welcome, but they have to be relevant. In other words, spammers need not stop by!

  18. Ryan says:

Cool, I’m going to use this on my blog, thanks indeed :D

  19. blackdog says:

My blogs have become dofollow. I would love it you added them to your list.

Sharing the love with links will definitely increase the amount of traffic to your site, and as pointed out doesn’t hurt the site one bit. Thank you.

  21. Zulit says:

Nice to see you came to your senses. I have always let legitimate bloggers link from their comments. The nofollow does not bleed my rank at all, and how does it hurt.

I still see many bloggers who will not approve comments from another blogger (especially if their blog looks REALLY good) because they fear their audience will skip off and they’ll lose them.

The VERY point of blogging is destroyed with this anal and egoic mindset.

Welcome back to a friendly universe.

  22. thanks much for a do follow, more power to you..so unselfish of you great

  23. Great Blog. Just not sure why I am up at 3 a.m. reading this. :)
