Allsop Cool Channel Platform for Laptops: Review

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you use a laptop? I’ve more or less given up desktops completely. If I work at my desk (which isn’t often any more), I have a keyboard and mouse that I plug into my laptop (a MacBook). Otherwise, I’m almost always working as I sit on the couch or even in bed.

The biggest drawback to this is the heat that a laptop can generate and the positioning of the machine as you type. There are many laptop tables you can buy and I use one of those regular ones, with little white pellets that fill the soft part and there’s a hard “table top” attached. The problem is, I’ve gone through three of those. The fabric tears easily or the decorative buttons come off and the little beads fall out, making a nice mess. And, the table top doesn’t do anything about the heat coming from the computer.

So, the other day, I went shopping for a new type of laptop table to buy and I ended up picking up an Allsop Cool Channel Platform. I purchased it at Staples (Bureau en Gros here in Quebec) for 40.00. The recommended price is 39.99, according to the Allsop website.

The design is different from other lap tables and other cooling tables. There’s a mesh covering on a firm base and the part that angles upwards is shaped like a “C.” While this is to accommodate putting the machine on your lap at a good angle, there’s another good reason for it. If you flip the lap desk over, you can slide your closed computer into the “C” and it fits in snugly, providing some protection if you put your laptop in a briefcase or backpack. The draw back is if your laptop is slim, like my MacBook is, the fit isn’t snug so I wouldn’t be able to take advantage of this benefit.

Another good thing is that it’s not heavy at all.

Thumbs Up!

  1. I love the Mac Note book. But I still prefer my hard drive. When I work on my laptop for any length of time, I have neck and back problems. I know its my posture while working on it but I can’t seem to rectify if working on it any length of time

It looks like a nice stand. I would think that it would scratch my MacBook Pro if I put it in the case with it though.

Hey! I just purchased this item and went looking for reviews online and found yours. Thank you for your review. I have to tell you though, I just bought it today and it only cost me $13 at Big Lots.
